2020 Zion Half Marathon – Race Mindset Program
This exciting program instills a positive mindset to get you ready for an amazing race experience!
I just finished the Grand Teton half and am so grateful I signed up for your program. It was a beautiful course – but not without its challenges, and your techniques really helped get me not only through the race but to a PR (of almost 2 minutes)! This was astonishing since, even though I’ve run 5 halves and 1 full marathon, I live in Florida and was quite concerned about the altitude shift. Your segment on that topic was so spot-on, and I also reviewed the laser focus techniques and “mind of a champion” ideas several times along the run when I felt myself doubting. I now also have a wonderful journal that I kept along the way of your program that I will refer to often, not just in pursuing my running goals but my life goals as well. Thank you again for helping me move along this journey so successfully!
“I was skeptical in the beginning, because I’m not much of a mindful runner. I’m more of a “just get out of the door and run” kind of gal. I’ve got to tell you–my running has improved since I started these videos. There is monster hill near my home, and I conquered it for the first time on Wednesday using some of the techniques recommended in the videos.”
I want to tell you that on a whim – having been a runner and then not as life happened when we adopted two teens in the past 2 years – I signed up for the 21 day program. The first few days I struggled to understand the roll out of topics. Now, I’m hooked! Such relevant and timely topics for where I am in my human journey as a new mom in my 50’s and missing my private time on a trail or down the road or up the monster hill just to refresh and feel wholly alive. Thank you and keep up the inspiring work. Last week was week 1 in the gym to begin to build my base again. I am amazing and why can’t I find the time to incorporate my runs in this new life. Cheers!
“Terry’s positive mindset course really helped me prepare for my first half marathon in Yosemite. Not only that, I went from being anxious and nervous to having the most fun I’ve ever had on a run! It was the longest run I’ve ever done, and I needed something to help me get motivated and stay motivated to complete the challenge. Waking up each day for 21 days and getting into a positive mindset, considering a lesson or tip, and then carrying that through my day and my workout really helped me feel like I had a solid mental foundation for my run. I found myself thinking about a lot of these lessons during the race, and I ran the majority of the course with a huge grin on my face! That would never have happened without Terry. Thank you for making my first half marathon such a wonderful experience! I ran faster than I thought I could, and I loved every step of the way.”
“I tend to get extremely anxious before races, and going into Yosemite I had a sense of confidence instead, as I gradually noticed my confidence level increasing as I worked my way through the series. The sessions really helped me visualize and even expect a strong race performance, which I believe made a big difference. Also, several things Terry said resonated with me and turned into new favorite mantras I would (and still do) repeat while running. Lastly, several of the sessions reminded me to take a step back and remind myself why I run at all, helping me to appreciate the opportunity to run in general and get me more excited to get out the door. Even though I went into the race with tight muscles from hiking, I still achieved my goal of making it on the podium for my division, and even ended up PR’ing (completely unexpectedly)!”

Why a positive mindset? Research has shown that pessimism is the top ranked runners’ mental roadblock. Negativity, whether it’s worry or doubt, often leads to self-defeating behaviors including slowing down, cutting a workout short, or dropping out of a race. Our positive race mindset program delivers consistent positive mental training that switches your responses from negative to positive. We can also learn from elite athletes that have used a positive mindset to record breaking effect. In her excellent book, Let Your Mind Run, national marathon record holder Deena Kastor explains how shaping her mind with the power of positive psychology, using gratitude, love, and affirming thoughts can give anyone a competitive edge.
